About

Ana María Alarcón (b. 1996, Bogotá) is a Colombian artist and architect based in Copenhagen. With a focus on drawing and sculpture, her practice explores how realities are constructed, inhabited, and continually transformed.

Her practice explores the relationship between our inner lives and the realities we inhabit, examining how memory, imagination, and encounters with others shape our sense of who we are and where we belong.

Her work begins with an openness to questioning what seems familiar. People, objects, and spaces become sites of transformation, carrying meanings that shift with experience. Through them, she considers how we create shelter, form attachments, and find our place within a world that is continually changing.

Informed by her experience of living between cultures, her practice engages with the emotional dimensions of displacement and belonging. Childhood emerges as a recurring lens through which to explore vulnerability, curiosity, and the capacity to imagine other possibilities. Moments of play and gestures of care offer ways of approaching uncertainty, giving form to experiences that can be difficult to articulate.

Her background in architecture brings a particular sensitivity to how spaces are inhabited, both physically and emotionally. Across her work, she returns to the intimate relationship between the worlds we encounter and those we construct within ourselves, inviting viewers to bring their own memories and associations to that exchange.
